Swimming pools, unlike ordinary dry surfaces, require coating applications that are able to sustain chemically treated water. Alpine has over 40 years of experience in restoring pools and has the right tools and knowledge to ensure protection of your pool. Our first line of business is to evaluate the existing coating of your pool. We perform lead testing to older pools to see if the pool could have had harmful lead-based paint applied to it. We evaluate the integrity of the existing coating and see if it is compatible with the new coating we are about to apply.
We then begin surface preparation. Proper surface preparation includes acid etching and neutralization of chemicals which are vital to ensure adhesion. Additionally, moisture vapor transmission testing and expansion joint evaluation is highly recommended before painting. For the West New York apartments we sandblasted, primed and then painted with coatings that can handle immersion and chemical resistance. Sandblasting was necessary because the existing coating was severely peeling from the steel surface and a smooth surface makes for better adhesion for the new paint. We also made sure that the coating had adequate cure days prior to being filled with water.
