Elizabeth, NJ is located in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the Nation. It is easily accessible by all forms of transportation and has recently been revitalized as a hub for retail and entertainment. Last year alone, over 15 million people visited Elizabeth’s Jersey Garden Mall, the largest mall on the East Coast. For Alpine, the most significant retail store located in Elizabeth is the top performing IKEA in the nation as well as largest IKEA in New Jersey, the reason being - Alpine painted it!
As one of the largest non-union painting contractors on the East Coast, Alpine was recommended by Benjamin Moore’s Customer Care/National Accounts Team to bid on the job. With only two short months to paint the entire exterior of this large IKEA, Alpine had to make sure to be efficient, timely, and perform superior work. With a qualified crew of 6-8 men, Alpine finished the job in just 6 weeks!
There were many obstacles to be faced during this project. The biggest obstacle was the location of the IKEA. Elizabeth has the State Turnpike as well as the Newark International Airport located right near its IKEA, so Alpine had to find a way to overcome this hurdle. Because we decided that spraying the structure would give the best finish, our biggest concern was potential overspray on vehicles in the nearby parking lot and turnpike as well as arriving planes. We overcame these concerns by utilizing a custom containment on the lift basket along with being very aware of the existing wind patterns when we sprayed. The containment captured the majority of the overspray and still allowed our team to safely operate the boom lift. One other concern was the high amount of customer traffic and store deliveries. Alpine set up cones to control traffic flow and utilized multiple ground flag men to help direct vehicles and avoid potential accidents.
This project featured multiple levels of Alpine Painting’s Management Team including: Sales Director, Commercial Estimator, Director of Operations, Lead Project Manager, Site Supervisor, and Foreman. Our defined business structure called for a distinct separation in roles and allowed for a constant communication throughout the ranks, smooth and steady flow of work and a clear definition of success. By establishing and meeting a strict deadline, Alpine was able to successfully complete the project ahead of schedule while meeting our company budget.
