Project: Renaissance Lakewood Lab Room Floors – Excellence in Safety and Innovation

In May 2024, Alpine Painting and Sandblasting completed the installation of a resinous flooring system for Renaissance Lakewood LLC’s laboratory facility in Lakewood, NJ. This project, spanning 16,000 square feet, posed several challenges, including an unexpectedly shortened timeline, complex requirements, and additional client requests. Through advanced planning, technical expertise, and a steadfast commitment to safety, Alpine delivered exceptional results and earned the STEP Silver Award from the American Builders and Contractors (ABC) Safety Management System along the way.
Project Scope and Challenges
Initially planned to be completed over three days, the project’s timeline was reduced to just two days due to an unforeseen power outage at the facility. To meet the deadline, Alpine’s team worked tirelessly, starting at 2:00 a.m. on Memorial Day weekend and logging 16-hour shifts to finish the job on time. Adding to the challenge, the client requested changes to the original plan, including additional flooring, yellow demarcation lines, and a vinyl cove base.
The project involved five separate rooms, each requiring meticulous surface preparation. Alpine applied a five-coat system that included four layers of epoxy, followed by a urethane finish. A double broadcast of colored flakes between epoxy layers created an aesthetic and slip-resistant surface.
Innovative Solutions
Adapting to the client’s enhanced expectations, Alpine collaborated with material manufacturers to develop a flooring system that could be applied and cured within a shortened timeframe. The team faced additional challenges, including a power issue that prevented the use of planned equipment. Alpine safely switched to smaller, 110-volt equipment, adding time but maintaining safety protocols.
Safety Focus
This commitment to safety over all earned the company the STEP Silver Award–a recognition reflects the company’s dedication to implementing industry-leading safety practices, including:
Job Safety Planning: Comprehensive pre-job training, PPE usage, and the installation of containment systems to protect the lab environment.
Ventilation and Environmental Safety: Ensuring proper ventilation with fans and dehumidifiers to control fumes.
Safe Equipment Use: Adapting to faulty power equipment with safe, smaller alternatives.
Project Outcomes
Despite losing an entire workday, Alpine completed the project on time and within budget. The new flooring system met the client’s expectations for both functionality and aesthetics, and the client expressed satisfaction with the team’s ability to adapt to changes. The successful execution of this complex project further solidified Alpine’s reputation for safety, efficiency, and craftsmanship.
Conclusion
The Renaissance Lakewood Lab project showcases Alpine Painting’s ability to overcome significant challenges while maintaining a focus on safety and quality, and the recognition of the STEP Silver Award reflects Alpine’s commitment to ensuring that every single project meets the highest safety standards.
