Project: Emergency Maintenance Painting Transforms Firmenich's Manufacturing Facility
Alpine Painting and Sandblasting took on a transformative project for Firmenich, a prominent fragrance and taste company. Firmenich sought to rejuvenate their manufacturing facility before an important client visit and improve employee morale. The project presented unique challenges as it had to be executed in an active working environment with constant foot traffic and equipment movement.
In Winter of 2022-2023, Alpine Painting and Sandblasting was contacted by Firmenich with an urgent need to recoat areas of their manufacturing facility. The client desired a fresh, clear, and uniform look for their space before an upcoming client visit and sought to improve employee morale. Alpine quickly mobilized its team and commenced work with a flexible hours schedule according to the needs of the client.
The project presented significant challenges as the work area was an active working environment, with foot traffic, fork-lift traffic, pallet jacks, assembly lines, and actively working equipment. Alpine needed to carefully coordinate and quadrant work areas based on Firmenich's production schedule to ensure the safety of its workers. The client emphasized the importance of maintaining uninterrupted production, leading to Alpine implementing a flexible maintenance agreement to adjust their manpower at the client's discretion.
The scope of work encompassed interior painting of walls, doors, bollards, equipment, columns, and even concrete floors. The project initially spanned two weeks, but due to Alpine's exceptional work quality, Firmenich extended the contract. Alpine returned for exterior painting and continued to serve Firmenich's facility as needed, completing a significant amount of work in a short time frame.
The project commenced in January 2023 and was completed by April, successfully meeting the first objective of preparing the facility for Firmenich's important client visit. Alpine implemented a four-color scheme that incorporated Firmenich's logo colors, resulting in a dramatic improvement to the space and a highly satisfied client.
Unique Client Requests and Challenges
Firmenich made a request to have the flexibility to start and stop work as needed, which required Alpine to adjust its plans regularly. The project's success hinged on maintaining uninterrupted production, necessitating seamless coordination and communication with the client.
Additionally, the constantly active working environment presented safety concerns for Alpine's team, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols and ongoing adaptability. The unpredictability of Firmenich's production schedule meant Alpine had to implement a flexible maintenance agreement to adjust manpower and resources accordingly.
Products and Skill Level
Alpine partnered with Sherwin Williams and utilized a range of products, including PrepRite ProBlock Stain Blocking Primer/Sealer and KemBond, Rust Inhibitive Primer for surface preparation. For the actual painting, they used ProMar 200 Interior Latex, Flat Finish for walls and Pro Industrial Urethane Alkyd Enamel, Gloss Finish, Coating for metal equipment. All products performed to satisfaction, meeting the project's needs.
The project demanded a higher level of skill due to the constantly changing environment and the need for workers to follow proper safety measures while working alongside active equipment. Alpine's team demonstrated exceptional adaptability and expertise in navigating these challenges.
Alpine Painting and Sandblasting successfully transformed Firmenich's manufacturing facility, meeting the client's objectives of preparing for an important client visit and improving the overall environment. The project's challenges demanded constant flexibility and clear communication, aspects in which Alpine excelled. The remarkable results and positive feedback from Firmenich reinforced Alpine's reputation as a dependable partner for complex and time-sensitive assignments.
