The Benefits of Installing a Urethane Flooring System

Flooring systems in commercial and industrial facilities can see many impacts on a daily basis. From the foot traffic of customers and staff to the movement of equipment, products, boxes, or a combination of everything, if you’re looking for a durable system with extra protection, treating your flooring with a urethane coating may be the right choice.

What is urethane flooring?

Urethane (also known as polyurethane) is a thermosetting polymer, which essentially means it is a coating system that permanently sets when mixed and cured. In addition to a high level of durability, urethane offers functional protection that includes:

  • Scuff, stain, and slip resistance

  • Shock absorption

  • Chemical, abrasion, and UV resistance

  • Waterproof protection

  • Antimicrobial properties

Aesthetically, urethane coatings can also offer decorative finishes and designs to both commercial and industrial spaces to match the branding and color scheme of the business.

How do I know if urethane is right for my facility?

A variety of factors can come into play when choosing the appropriate flooring system for any facility. We always recommend working with an experienced flooring professional, like Alpine, before you begin. A professional can assess your facility and provide recommendations on the appropriate system based on your space, needs, and budget.

Here are a few things to consider when reaching out to a professional:

  • What are your biggest concerns about your flooring?

  • How much direct sunlight does your space see?

  • How much time do you have to work?

  • What is the condition of your current flooring system?

  • What is your budget?

A note on sustainability

Since urethane flooring is poured into place and becomes part of the building structure, it is less likely than other flooring systems to end up in landfills. Here at Alpine, we pride ourselves on maintaining the highest level of quality control in our flooring products, including ensuring there are little to no VOCs in them. This means a low-odor application and curing process, which keeps you, your employees, your customers, and the environment around you as safe as possible.
