 The Benefits of Industrial Painting

The scope of industrial site painting, preparation and coating ranges from manufacturing facilities, processing plants and other heavy-duty properties which include the need for their painting contractors to deliver aggressive surface preparation techniques and specialized coatings for high performance. This level of service goes in a beyond mere aesthetics. That’s why it is critical for the owners and operators to engage with experienced and certified painting contractors who understand how to deliver the protection and efficiency of industrial paints and coatings. From the earliest days of shipbuilding, craftspeople understood the value of coating surfaces for protection. Here are a few reasons to consider an industrial painting solution.

1. Industrial Painting Prevents Corrosion

It can be argued that the most common application for industrial coatings is in fact to protect desired surfaces against rust and corrosion. Due to the intensive nature of industrial processes, mechanical components can begin to break down in mere months without adequate protection. In addition, industrial coatings are essential for equipment that may be exposed to water within certain environements. This is especially true of anything that must spend extended periods of time outdoors exposed to the elements.

The interaction between chemicals and unprotected materials such as metal or plastic is what causes a break down over periods of time. These reactions eventually cause the materials to become more vulnerable and less stable, which can result in failure. High-quality protective coatings are formulated specifically to be non-reactive. This ensures that any material, object, or surface coated will remain in good condition for much longer period of time.

2. Industrial Painting Fireproofs Equipment

A growing number of industrial painting products today include an intumescent fireproofing layer. This feature protects facilities and equipment from the threat of fire by helping to contain its spread. Products such as FireFree, Carboline, and Albi are thin film paints that withstand against extreme temperatures for an extended period of time. These coatings have demonstrated their aesthetic appeal in a wide variety of functional applications. Our specialized intumescent paint coatings are commonly used in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, hotels, hospitals, and schools.

These fireproofing industrial painting products come in two main types: soft char and hard char. The former holds in moisture that is released as steam when it expands in the presence of excessive heat. This slows fire and leaves behind a material that does not conduct heat very well. Hard char material melts into sodium silicates and graphite that form firewalls. Both varieties of fireproofing paint contribute to environments that safeguard personnel and property.

3. Industrial Painting Reduces Energy Consumption

Industrial coatings play a role in improving energy efficiency that should not be overlooked. Large-scale facilities demand efficient operations of machinery and internal systems to lessen their negative contributions to the overall carbon footprint.

For this reason, reflective industrial paints that deflect heat away from walls instead of absorbing it can go a long way toward reducing a building’s energy consumption and improving efficiency ratings. These coatings use light colors and specially formulated chemical compounds to deflect heat and sunlight, so they help keep facilities cooler during the day and reduce their dependence on HVAC systems. Not only can this be highly effective, but it is also relatively inexpensive compared to other methods.
