Another project was to clean and paint five storage tanks in the tank farm area outside. As done in the past, we called upon Dave Scaturo from Alpine Painting to help us put a plan together.
Two of the tanks were 20,000 gallons which always presents a challenge because of the height. However, Alpine took all necessary safety precautions in order to get the job done.
First, the tanks were cleaned by power washing and spot grinding/sanding. Plastic sheets were put around the base of the tank to catch debris and prevent it from running into our catch basin. The grinders/sanders were also equipped with a Hepa vacuum to reduce the amount of dust generated.
Once the tanks were prepared, three coats of epoxy paint were applied; a primer, an intermediate, and then a final coat of paint. The life span of this epoxy paint is about 8-10 years. The painting of these tanks is necessary maintenance and also helps keep the Tank Farm looking nice.
Thank you to Dave at Alpine Painting for completing this project in a timely and professional manner, as well as Bel-Ray and specifically Warren Cobb for letting us be in the way for a few weeks.
